Thinking cap, Vintage hat...

Humans have covered their heads since the time of yore, whether it be to protect one's little head from the elements or show a certain social status, hats have always been "in." If we are speaking fashion, hats are the ultimate accessory if you want to get noticed. Remember the old saying? "If you want to get ahead in life, wear a hat." So today, VintageTeal is here to tell our readers about fabulous vintage hats.

Bold Emerald green hat
There are many styles we favor. One being the classic cloche hat. It looks adorable with any hair style and is so easy to adhere a lovely brooch to. {Also, LOVE the red lipstick with this hat.} Fedoras are here to stay, both men and women can enjoy these for fashion and warmth. Why not look suave while shopping the local Kroger. :) Now is not the time to fear color. Go for something bold like a royal blue or emerald green to make your outfit pop. Netting, silk, feathers and fur are accepted and welcome.

A great place to start if you would like to find a moderately priced vintage hat is a local antique mall. Nashville has several that are great for all of your vintage shopping needs. We love the Gaslamp Antique Mall and the Tennessee Antique Mall for starters. While recently perusing these local antique malls, vT found three vintage hats all less than $10 each. Merry Christmas to us!Also, if you are lucky enough to catch the flea market, you will find some Ahhh-mazing deals! Happy Thursday. xo *vT
Oh...ps...if Carrie Bradshaw does it so should we, right? RIGHT. <3

P.S. Check out StyleBy.Me, a local look book from our home state AR also co-founded by one of our close friends, to sneak a peak at one of VintageTeal's new designs.

e. is for eggplant...

"Cooking is like love.  It should be entered into with abandon or not at all." -Harriet Van Horne

For over the past year, VintageTeal and friends, as per tradition, has been getting together for food, wine, giggles and sometimes tears.  As we cooked with one another, we found that each of us knew a little something special that the others may not in the kitchen. We decided we wanted to share some of these secrets with our favorite readers, so each Wednesday we will share something from the evening's menu with you.
Eggplant Parm Ingredients
1 large eggplant
2 tbsp garlic
1/2 white onion
1/3 c olive oil
1 c Panko Bread Crumbs
3 eggs
2 tbsp milk
1/8 c flour
4 oz fresh mozzarella
12-14 oz Marinara Sauce
1/2 c grated fresh Parmesan
Salt, Pepper, & Italian seasoning

 Lemon Butter Noodles Ingredients
1 fresh lemon
8-10 oz linguine
4 tbsp unsalted butter
Kosher Salt & Cracked Pepper

Eggplant Parmesan
|1.| Slice eggplant lengthwise in to 1/4 in. slices.  Arrange slices over 2 folded paper towels. Liberally salt both sides of sliced eggplant (this is vital as it draws the bitter water out of the eggplant).  Let sit for 30 min to an hour.
|2.| Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
|3.| While the eggplant is draining, prepare the pan for frying the eggplant. Pour oil, chopped onion and minced garlic in saute pan and turn heat to medium high. You want the pan to get hot enough to brown the bread crumbs.
|4.| When eggplant has drained, rinse with water and press with dry paper towels to remove all excess water. In a shallow bowl, crack the eggs and whisk in the milk.  In a separate shallow bowl, combine bread crumbs and Italian seasoning/salt/pepper to taste.  When oil is shimmering, individually dredge eggplant slices, first in the egg mixture, second in the crumb mixture, and place into the hot pan.
|5.| Fry until golden brown on both sides, turning slices once.  Then drain eggplant on 2 folded paper towels.
|6.| Pour a thin layer of marinara sauce into nonstick baking dish or pan (save 1/3 of the sauce for topping). Place 1/3 of the eggplant slices into the baking pan (these should be the largest pieces).  Place one piece of sliced mozzarella on top of each piece of eggplant in the baking pan.  Continue layering process until you have individual towers of eggplant.  Pour remaining sauce evenly over each eggplant tower.  Then sprinkle generously with fresh grated Parmesan.
|7.| Bake until cheese is melted and slightly brown.  20-30 minutes.

Lemon Butter Noodles
|1.| Boil 3 quarts of salted water, then add noodles.  Cook until noodles are al dente, and then pour noodles into collander.
|2.| Add 4 tbsp butter and squeeze the juice of an entire lemon over the hot noodles.  Zest one lemon over the noodles.  Add salt and pepper to taste.
|3.| Serve each eggplant tower over a bed of noodles.  Bon appetite!
**Serves 3 if you don't mind unbuttoning your pants at the table, and 4 if you are planning to eat light**

Please let VintageTeal know if you try out any of our recipes and feel free to email your favorites that you would like us to try...vT*

Beaded Bag Bliss...

We have always had a strong affection for the perfect handbag, as they so admirably bear the responsibility of carrying our treasures.  Though for quite some time the boho carryall has seemed to be a crowd favorite, we have slowly started to see a comeback of the choice to carry something smaller, special, and hopefully sparkly.  Often forcing those of us, who enjoy carrying around something not unlike a MaryPoppins bag, to lighten our load.
Etsy no longer available

And lightening that load can be freeing.  Especially when it allows you to choose from an array of dainty options that can easily bring that special something to your look.  Which brings us to our inspiration for today.  BEADED BAGS....not a surprise for VintageTeal as we can spend entire weekends at bead and gemstone shows.  However, we believe that beaded lovelies are something everyone can enjoy.  Below are some of our very favorites...

These are just a few of the many sweet lovelies out there to add a little sparkle to your wardrobe.  Wondering were to find these little ladies?  We have spotted some fabulous, but expensive options at Anthropologie, that are definitely worth taking a peak at.  However, the best places to start shopping are at your local antique malls, vintage shops, and markets.  We hope that you saw something that caught your eye.
Happy Hunting...vT*

First, VintageTeal is excited to launch our very own blog to share more of what VintageTeal has to offer you.  We have so much to be thankful for, and we can't thank you enough for the support and kind words of encouragement along the way.  For those of you not familiar with us, VintageTeal was founded by close friends b. duncan and j. reasons as a way to share our love of jewelry designing, vintage shopping and personal and home styling.  We hope that you will take some time every once and awhile to visit our blog and take a peak at what we are up to, which lately has involved many late nights with the two of us making a mess of our work station.
